Markup Review

This simple one page site makes use of several new elements such as <section>, <header> and <nav>. I am baffled why the page is served with an XHTML1.0 Strict doctype though, maybe the author can shed some light on this on for us?

Ummm… while there may be HTML5 elements in there, it’s not HTML5 if it’s served with an XHTML1.0 doctype. So should it actually be included here?

I’ll concede it’s a nice looking page though…

Hi Matt

I take your point I have mentioned the doctype to the author but I’m not sure if he’s left it like that to cater for older browsers or just missed it. I’ll await his reply.

Hey, I’m this website author. This project started being xhtml 1 strict, and trying to ‘translate’ the tags to html 5, I dealed with several problems with IE compatibility, mainly with CSS declarations; that’s why I don’t call them through this new tags, but by it’s id.

Changing the doctype would came with the same problem, and as I need to have a consistency between browsers with this website in particular, I decided do try a mix of html5 tags and xhtml1 doctype, resulting in this experience; successful for the browsers compatiblity but not as I wanted.

Soon will be added videos, nativelly with tag.

Tnx a lot for this showcase.

Thanks for the explanation I think that’s answered Matt’s questions.
