A gallery of portraits of people who donated to the Movember campaign in 2011, each with a moustache added by the artist.

The site is nicely constructed and each portrait is in a section element, which helps build a document outline. Perhaps they would be better as articles as they work as standalone items, but a bigger problem is the lack of heading elements within each.

Stockholm Hairdresser

The website for the annual Stockholm Hairdresser event.

A simple site but noteworthy for the attention to detail in the code. The doctype and meta charset declarations are shortened, script and stylesheet link elements have no type attribute, and small is used for the small print at the end of the document. New HTML structural elements have also been used, and implicit sectioning is used as recommended in the spec.

Festival Mundo

The website of a Brazilian music and cultural festival.

The site is marked up using plenty of new HTML5 elements, and the blog section on the home page is a nice example of a section with nested articles. The agenda section uses the same structure but the articles are untitled. It would be better to use the tabs as article headings and position them with CSS.

Art District on Santa Fe

A website all about the art district in Denver, Colorado.

Although most of the section elements are used correctly, there is one used to wrap a large block of content. div is a better element for this job. Using article inside each of the li elements in the slideshow on the homepage would work well too.

A site promoting a digital innovation event in Brazil.

This site is well coded and makes good use of new HTML5 elements in the markup. One flaw is the use of the div class="programacao-completa" to wrap the timetables and twitter feed. Using div means that the nested sections are on the same level in the outline as their parent, but if section was been used the outline would be better.

Highlight Comedy

A website advertising stand-up comedy events in Britain.

Although the first section has a title in the outline it’s by accident rather than design, and the title is not relevant to the section, so div would have been a better choice. The meta tag declaring the charset is missing, as is the html lang attribute.

Website to promote a web event in Brazil. Good use of section elements, but the aside element is used where div would be acceptable. link elements also have type attributes which are unnecessary. The ‘apply now’ link could be used inside the nav element. The ‘slogan’ could be grouped with the h1 in a hgroup, then positioned with CSS. A small element would be suitable for the copyright info.
